North Carolina is one of the most beautiful states in the east, and at the Riverwalk Apartment Homes, we are happy to provide the people of North Carolina with high-quality apartments in Denver. Denver, North Carolina, where we are located, is one of the most beautiful parts of the state — but we have to acknowledge some of the rest of the state’s beauty too.

In today’s blog post we will be discussing a few of our favorite destinations in North Carolina that you absolutely must see. And the best part is that you can use our apartments in Denver, NC as a home base for your exploration.

Lake Lure

If you haven’t heard of Lake Lure, the odds are that you have still seen pictures of it. Known as one of North Carolina’s most beautiful lakes, Lake Lure is often featured in landscape photography. Featuring mountains rolling down to the lakeside and deep blue-green water, Lake Lure is the perfect place to spend the weekend swimming, fishing, and laying out in the sun. Sure, in Denver we have Lake Norman, but being that Lake Lure is an under-two-hour drive away from our apartment community it would be silly not to adventure out to see Lure lake.

Bryson City

About three hours west of our apartments for rent in Denver there is a quaint little town called Bryson City. Bryson City is one of the towns that you look at and automatically think “I bet that they serve great brunch there.” Featuring boutique small businesses and restaurants, Bryson City is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. In addition to having various amenities and activities to participate in, Bryson City has a wealth of history and historical sites to visit.

Nags Head

In the opposite direction of Lake Lure and Bryson City lies another destination that you must see — the coast! Nags head is one of the most popular locations in the state of North Carolina because of its abundant beaches and sunshine. While Nags Head is a must-see destination, we suggest that you take a day or two off to fully experience everything that this awesome area has to offer.

Chimney Rock State Park

Two hours from our Denver apartments lies a wonderful destination in the woods known as Chimney Rock State Park. Climb the 315-foot spire overlooking Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure or travel by foot on the miles and miles of shaded trails. Even better, stop by Lake Lure and knockout two destinations with one trip!

Freedom Park

Located in Charlotte,  a quick trip down highway 16, Freedom Park is known for the Festival in the Park — a gathering known as one of the top 20 events in the area by the Southeast Tourism Society. Every September, 100,000 people head to Freedom Park for a five-day film festival that has been nationally recognized for its stunning location. So what are you waiting for? Schedule your trip to Freedom Park and see what it is all about.

Pisgah National Forest

In western North Carolina, you can find one of the countries most beautiful national forests. Pisgah national forest is known for its lush foliage, winding creeks, and stunning waterfalls. One of the more famous waterfalls, Cedar Rock Falls, is over 20 feet tall and is without a doubt one of the most stunning views that the state has to offer. Located less than three hours from our Denver apartments, Pisgah National Forest is a trip that is more than worthy of being added to your calendar.

Merchants Millpond State Park

In the northeast corner of the state, over five hours from our apartments in Denver, you can find one of the most unique parks in the entire state — Merchants Millpond State Park. Located near the coast, Merchant Mills State Park is home to large cypress swamps perfect for fishing, kayaking and a number of other activities. Just be sure to watch out for alligators and all of the other wild animals.

Sliding Rock

Sliding Rock is one of the most sought-after experiences in North Carolina — being that not only is it extremely beautiful, but it is also fun for both kids and adults alike.  Every minute 11,000 gallons of water flows down the rock, carrying adventure seekers downstream as it flows. Located in Pisgah National Forest, Sliding Rock is the perfect attraction to work into your trip to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.

Kitty Hawk

Are you interested in seeing one of the most historically significant sites in American history? No, it is not a Civil War Battlefield, but it is instead where the Wright Brothers first took flight.  Kitty Hawk is also home to a 461-acre nature reserve that is home to a number of different flora and fauna species that are not commonly elsewhere. And did we mention that it is the perfect place to sunbathe after you tour the historic and natural areas?

Beech Mountain

Known as being more than just the highest town north of the Rocky Mountains, Beech mountain is also home to a defunct amusement park — parts of which can still be found strewn throughout the woods. In fact, the yellow brick road from the park still exists. In the summer you can trek through the trees and in the winter you can ski at the local resort — making a trip to Beech Mountain perfect for all times of the year.
