It is finally starting to feel like winter, here at the Riverwalk Apartment Homes. The days are shorter and the nights are a little colder than we have been used to.
While many people consider themselves to be “summer people,” here in the Denver, North Carolina area, it is usually because people tend to associate summer with fun local activities in the Lake Norman area. At the Riverwalk Apartment Homes, we are here to tell you that the fun family activities don’t end when the temperature drops.

Huntersville Half Marathon & Holiday 5k (December 13–14)
Disclaimer: This fun-filled holiday event might not be for everyone. In fact, a lot of people might not consider a long-distance running event as fun. That said, there are plenty of people who would consider a holiday 5k or half marathon to be a blast. If you and your family enjoy a bit of friendly competition and a festive race shirt, the Huntersville half marathon & 5k is perfect for you.
In addition to being a fun event, the race also supports a good cause. Benefiting the Novant Health Foundation, participants in the race are eligible for cash prizes, medals, and race apparel — all while supporting a good cause.
Lighted Boat Parade (December 14)
As we have said, having Lake Norman so close to our Denver, North Carolina apartments is a huge benefit! To add to the various benefits provided by our proximity to the lake, there is also a fun, unique lighted boat parade on the lake each year.
Put on by the Peninsula Yacht Club, this fun family event features a wide variety of different boats adorned with bright, festive lights. And to top it off, the night ends with Santa himself making his grand entrance by boat. So grab a spot on shore this holiday season and see the 23thrd annual Lighted Boat Parade.
Post-Holiday Activities
The holidays are a time for rest and relaxation. That said, once the holidays are over, it is time to get active again. Luckily, living in North Carolina, it is never too early to get out and spend some time in the outdoors.
Hiking
One of the best ways to get active after your post-holiday shenanigans, it is to spend the day out on the trail hiking. Luckily, when you live near our apartments for rent in West Chester, hiking never includes driving for hours before ever hitting the trailhead.
Just north of Denver, on the western banks of Lake Norman, there are a number of great parks and trail systems that are easily accessible. So get out there and check out the fun foot-traffic trails at Rescue Squad Park or Rock Springs Nature Preserve.
Biking
Just like hiking, there are plenty of biking opportunities in the area. On the Northwestern edge of Lake Norman, there are plenty of low-traffic roads for road bikers and fun, engaging mountain bike trails like the Denver Baptist Mountain Bike Trail system.
Not looking to travel that far with your bike? Then simply ride around historic Denver and visit some of your favorite restaurants and boutiques.
The Dog Park
While it is important to try and be more active after the holiday season, it is also important to not forget about your four-legged friend. In fact, if you need a rest day yourself, there is still a great way to let them have fun — take them to an off-leash dog park!
